Essex Steam Train & Riverboat is excited to introduce a new interactive holiday activity this year, the Visions of the Holidays art contest! Consisting of three divisions - adult, young adults aged 12-18, and youth aged 7-11 - artists of all ages will submit an illustrated holiday greeting card (front only) to be reviewed by a panel of judges.
Schools, art classes, groups and artists of all ages are encouraged to participate! Designs should speak to the theme 'Visions of the Holidays' and must meet the size, matting, and hanging criteria as outlined at essexsteamtrain.com/visions-of-the-holidays/. After first, second, and third place winners are announced in each category, all winning submissions and honorable mentions will be hung up in an exhibit at Essex Steam Train's Oliver Jensen Gallery, where visitors will enjoy all throughout the holiday season.

Connecticut resident Mimi Stevens will appear at the Avon Free Public Library on Thursday, December 7, at 7:00pm, to read her story book, Maven & the Magic Buttons; How Tapping into Happy Helps Tears Disappear. Much more than a book signing, kids from 5 to 75 will love participating in "Blow Stress Away; Tap into Happy Holidays." Stevens' book empowers kids to regulate their own feelings, minds, and behavior.
Passionate about helping children, parents, and educators to cope with an increasingly stressful world, Stevens plans to read her book to hundreds of classrooms next year, empowering hundreds of kids with these real-life, nearly-magical skills.
